Fact Sheet: (CLARIN in) OSCARS

The OSCARS Project in a Nutshell

Full project name (with link to project page): Open Science Clusters’ Action for Research and Society (OSCARS)

Duration: 48 months, January 2024 to December 2027

Project coordinator (main applicant): CNRS

Consortium: The OSCARS consortium has been established by the five science clusters that were involved in the five science cluster projects (2019-2023): ENVRI-FAIR -Life, ESCAPE, PaNOSC and SSHOC. The clusters address the following large thematic research domains: Biomedical Science, Environment and Earth Sciences, Physics and Analytical Facilities, Social Science and Humanities and Astronomy.  (For more details, see www.science-clusters.eu.) Key partners from each cluster (in total 22 beneficiaries) are a member of the consortium to support and implement OSCARS’ work plan.

Summary of main topic and goals: Together with their broader scientific (user) communities, the RIs in the OSCARS project have two main objectives: (a) consolidating achievements from the five H2020 INFRA-EOSC-2018-01-04 projects into lasting interdisciplinary services and working practices; (b) leading and fostering the involvement of a broad range of research communities in EOSC via the development of new Open Science projects, that together will drive the uptake of FAIR-data-intensive research throughout the European Research Area ( ). For the latter objective a dedicated budget of around 18 million euro is part of the project budget.

SSH Competence Centre

The SSH Competence Centre (SSH CC) is a community-based virtual hub dedicated to fostering research excellence through training and knowledge transfer in the field of Social Science and Humanities (SSH). It is operated by the SSH Open Science Cluster (SSHOC) as part of the wider network of thematic competence centres of the five Science Clusters. These thematic cluster CCs were initiated within the OSCARS project in order to provide expertise, best practices and services for the uptake of Open Science, and to promote cross-disciplinary collaborations.
