As Martin Wynne's term is coming to an end soon, the CLARIN European Research Infrastructure Consortium (CLARIN ) has an opening for the part-time position of Director for User Involvement (20% fte).
The mission of CLARIN ERIC is to develop and maintain Europe’s common language resources and technology infrastructure and at the same time it aims to encourage the uptake and use of CLARIN within the social sciences and humanities (SSH), domains in which digital scholarship is rapidly developing. The chief responsibility of the Director for User Involvement (UI) is to stimulate, facilitate and coordinate the use of the CLARIN infrastructure, its language resources, and its language technology services by SSH scholars on a European scale. Instruments are in place to support the UI strategy and activities to be undertaken, but we welcome the development of new concepts and initiatives.
The tasks can be carried out at the applicant’s home institute with an average workload of one day per week. Depending on the profile and availability of the applicant, additional involvement in ongoing activities aiming at strengthening the user involvement will be considered. The applicant’s home institute will be reimbursed for the release time provided to CLARIN ERIC on the basis of the applicant’s regular salary (plus overhead). Occasional travel to CLARIN events and participation in (virtual) meetings of the CLARIN ERIC Board of Directors ( ) is required. Funds for administrative support and a travel budget will be provided. The appointment will be for a period of up to two years. Starting date: depending on availability, but preferably ultimately 1 September 2016.
We are looking forward to applications from senior humanities researchers who fulfil the following criteria:
- thorough familiarity with the Digital Humanities (DH) paradigm
- familiarity with CLARIN, its mission and vision, and the concept of research infrastructure in general
- established connections with and high visibility in one or more of the research communities that CLARIN aims to serve (e.g., history, literary studies, political studies)
- a proven scholarly track record (publications, use cases, demonstrators, data sets, etc.)
- excellent communication skills
- prepared to work in a team of co-directors and to collaborate with the National Coordinators’ Forum
- ample governing experience
