Introduction
CLARIN (based at the University of Utrecht) is looking to hire a student assistant (on average 0,3 - 0,4 FTE depending on availability) during the period of August-November 2023, with a possible extension after this period.
The tasks will focus primarily on the organisation of the CLARIN Annual Conference 2023 (16-18 October), to be held in Leuven, Belgium. It is a prerequisite for this position to also be available from 15-18 October for onsite support in Leuven (Belgium).
This position will be of particular interest to students with an academic background with digital humanities, language study, corpus linguistics and natural language processing.
Profile and tasks
We are looking for a person that matches the following profile:
- great organisational skills, structured thinking and good team player
- proficiency in English spoken and written language (working language in the office and at the conference)
- familiarity or willingness to learn online tools such as Google documents/spreadsheets/forms and simple website editing
Your tasks
- assisting with the conference logistics such as the registration procedure, website editing, dealing with questions from conference participants and supporting authors of accepted papers.
- assisting with the logistics on site during the conference in Leuven from 15-18 October 2023 (travel, accommodation and meals will be covered).
CLARIN
CLARIN stands for "Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure". It is a research infrastructure that was initiated from the vision that all digital language resources and tools from all over Europe and beyond are accessible through an online environment for the support of researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
The CLARIN Office consists of ca. 15 people, working at offices in Utrecht and Nijmegen.

Working hours
From August until November, availability for 12-16 hours throughout the week is expected. The peak of the workload is expected to start by the end of August, and for September and first half of October we expect maximum availability (but of course still in line with any study obligations).
Payment
Payment takes place according to the salary scale for student assistants. Student assistants who are enrolled in a graduate programme will be paid according to salary scale point 4. Student assistants who are enrolled in an undergraduate programme will be paid according to salary scale point 2 as long as they have not obtained 120 ECTS, after which they will progress to salary scale point 3.
