Antal van den Bosch Joins the CLARIN ERIC Board of Directors

We are pleased to announce that Prof Antal van den Bosch will join the CLARIN ERIC Board of Directors ( ) from 1 March 2022. He will take over from Andreas Witt, who was part of the CLARIN BoD from September 2019 until February 2022 and has now been appointed national coordinator of CLARIN-D.

Antal van den Bosch will be working together with the other BoD members and the executive director Franciska de Jong on the development and implementation of the CLARIN strategy and policy. In particular he will focus on strengthening the ties between CLARIN and the broader AI world. 

Says Antal van den Bosch: ‘Much of what CLARIN does is natural language processing, which is an integral part of AI. Among the CLARIN users, we should also embrace the many developers of AI systems in academia and industry, who are eagerly looking for existing tools and resources.’

A computational linguist by training, Antal van den Bosch has worked in text mining, digital humanities, and on applications of computational language modelling in (psycho, socio and neuro) linguistics. He has led efforts to create sustainable and open source software packages for machine learning and (Dutch) , much of this in the context of CLARIN-NL and CLARIAH-NL. He is director of the Meertens Institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy for Arts and Sciences, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Professor of Language and AI at the University of Amsterdam. He is guest professor at the Computational Linguistics and Psycholinguistics Research Center at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, a member of the Netherlands Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences, and fellow of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence.
