About

DIGITAL HUMANITIES (DH) are at the intersection of computing or digital technologies and the disciplines of the humanities. The annual ADHO Digital Humanities Conference is the central and largest event of the international DH community and unites scholars from across the globe, presenting them with a unique opportunity for the exchange of their work and ideas and the fostering of future collaborations. This year’s conference theme ‘Collaboration as Opportunity’ showcases transdisciplinary and transnational collaboration, with a special focus on the thriving South-Eastern European Digital Humanities community. It will explore how mutual empowerment and collaboration of neighboring countries – regardless of continent and geopolitical placement – can transform regional hubs of expertise to international networks of excellent research, to the benefit of the global DH community.

Pre- Conference Workshops & Tutorials

TwinTalks 4: Understanding and Facilitating Remote Collaboration in DH
10 July 2023, 9:00 - 17:00 (CEST)
While remote collaboration is not new in DH, it has had a profound impact on the DH research, education and community in the past couple of years due to the health, security and financial crises. If absorbed appropriately, it can also prove beneficial in overcoming the various environmental, geographical, mobility and other barriers in the future, making DH more resilient, inclusive and diverse. This is why the main objective of the proposed workshop is to develop a better understanding of the dynamics on the Digital Humanities work floor when researchers, teachers and/or professionals with different areas of competence engage in remote collaboration to solve humanities research questions, and to explore how education and training of humanities scholars, cultural heritage professionals and technical experts can help making remote collaboration across disciplines more efficient and effective, more creative and innovative, and more inclusive and rewarding for all participants.
The workshop is a joint initiative by the European Social Sciences and Humanities Research Infrastructures CLARIN and DARIAH.

The recording of the TwinTalks workshop can be accessed here.

Put Them In to Get Them Out: the ParlaMint Corpora for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences Research
11 July 2023, 9:00 - 12:30 (CEST)

This hands-on half-day tutorial aims to explore the potential of the ParlaMint corpora – openly available collections of parliamentary records, which are uniformly sampled, annotated and rich in individual speaker and institutional group metadata. We show how the resource facilitates research into specific European parliaments and allows for transnational comparisons.

Creating a DH workflow in the SSH Open Marketplace
11 July 2023, 9:00 - 12:30 (CEST)

This workshop aims at supporting researchers interested in creating a workflow in the SSH Open Marketplace, to share best practices methods with the community. Selected participants will be supported by the members of the Editorial Board of this discovery portal to write and document their research scenarios.
