CMDI 1.2 for end users

CMDI 1.2

Information for end users

We consider all users that use indirectly end users. These users may not be aware of the fact that they are dealing with CMDI or the outcome of processing based on CMDI. Included in this category are users of CMDI based repositories, catalogues (such as the ) and tools that process resources or metadata on basis of CMDI records.
The answers to the questions below will probably also be of interest to metadata creators, metadata modellers, repository managers and software developers as they generally are end users of CMDI as well in one way or another.

What is CMDI 1.2?

See the page on CMDI 1.2 for general information about CMDI 1.2.

How does CMDI 1.2 affect me?

If you are a passive user of the CMDI infrastructure (which you may or may not be aware of!), that is if you browse or search for CLARIN resources and look at their descriptions in repositories or catalogues (such as the VLO), you will not be directly affected by the introduction of CMDI 1.2. However, a number of features of CMDI 1.2 will eventually be reflected in the metadata, either explicitly, for example when the or implicitly through enhanced quality and/or discoverability. If you are using CMDI files as input for processing tools (such as Weblicht), it may be that one or more of these tools do not yet support CMDI 1.2. In that case you should first check if a newer version of the tool is available that does support CMDI 1.2. See the CMDI 1.2 page for an overview of known tools and their support for various CMDI versions. You can also ask the provider of the CMDI file that you are trying to process if a CMDI 1.1 version is available or can be created.
